Cantina Nals Margreid may be one of the smallest cooperatives in the province, but is also one of its best-known, with the hard-working, expert staff under the guidance of kellermeister Harald Schraffl. Its 150 hectares under vine are located in two main areas, i.e. Nalles close to Merano, and Magrè, further south close to the Trentino border. In addition to these two large areas are Lagrein and Schiava vineyards in Bolzano, as well as the Mazzon area for pinot nero. Plenty of impressive wines this year, headed by a gutsy and almost essential version of Sirmian, the Pinot Bainco that has often topped our preferences, with its fresh, compact and penetrating aromas. In the mouth, the cool 2014 vintage gave a palate of great depth and length. The Mantele, meanwhile, is a Sauvignon which steps away from vegetable notes to
display a profile of good breadth, with a full-flavoured, balanced mouth. The Pinot Grigio Punggl expresses its pleasantly rustic, troubled soul.
