Our 14 winegrowing areas, each of them different and exceptional, give their names to the wines they generate and enrich them with the specific qualities, which soil, climate and sunlight alone can induce.
SoilIn South Tyrol, geological history formed an enclosed area with an extraordinary range of soils. The great variety of wines produced by the Nals Margreid Winery results from this accumulation of diverse soil conditions. Each vine spreats its roots in terrain of perfectly suitable characteristics: chalky scree, sandy riverbed soils and glacial outwash drifts over an underlyung layer of primitive rock formations consisting of porphyry, marble, gneiss and mica.
ClimateOur vineyards are scattered over 14 winegrowing areas in South Tyrol, extending/reaching from Nals in the north to Margreid in the south. However greatly they differ in their microclimate and soils, they share some fundamental conditions: Their elevations vary between 650 and 3000 feet above sea level. Secondly, they benefit from the Mediterranean influences arriving from the south, while being protected by the main ridge of the Alps in the north. Lastly, there is the South Tyrolean climate, which provides our vines with an average of 300 sunny days per year and allows for significant differences in temperature between day and night.
Like those of the nearby Margreid village, the Lafot vineyard attains to very high temperatures. Due to the southeast-facing limestone soils on the hillside, the Cabernet-vines grown here are exposed to a high intensity of solar rays, while being caressed by smooth southerly breezes.
