Made from air-dried Moscato Giallo grapes, the 2018 Alto Adige Baronesse Passito (packaged in a 375-milliliter bottle) opens to a vivid color with layers of shiny gold, copper and amber. The bouquet takes varietal intensity to a whole new level with an explosive dose of fragrant yellow rose, candied fruit, dried apricot, brown sugar and honey-glazed almond. The wine is viscous and rich, wrapping thickly over and beyond the palate. Crushed flowers, jasmine and honeysuckle all appear in generous supply. Winemaking is almost totally anaerobic, with 20 months of aging in steel tanks. The fruit is sourced from a vineyard site with loose limestone gravel soils that contribute to the wine's perfumed impact. This is a dessert wine in all caps, and a precious few 2,500 bottles exist.

Packaged in a handsome and heavy glass bottle, the Nals Margreid 2017 Alto Adige Merlot Cabernet Riserva Anticus is a dark and brooding red wine with rich fruit flavors of blackberry, black cherry and plum. The blend is 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the finished blend is aged in barrique for a slow 20 months. This is a beautifully intense and hearty red to pair with a hearty polenta and meat stew dish on a snowy winter night, après-ski. The wine's fleshy and fruity intensity and its spicy back-end flavors will warm your soul and palate. Some 15,000 bottles were made.

The Nals Margreid 2018 Alto Adige Pinot Bianco Sirmian is another terrific expression of this grape that is so perfectly matched to its high-altitude Italian territory. This wine is precise, focused and brilliant, and this is true of both its appearance and the quality of its aromas. The wine's aromas veer from citrus, pear and balanced almond to spicy saffron and light dustings of cinnamon. The wine ages in both steel and large oak cask for seven months. Fruit is sourced from a site with a mix of moraine soils with porphyry, marble, gneiss, mica and chalk. An ample 45,000 bottles were made.

The Nals Margreid 2018 Alto Adige Sauvignon Mantele is a very citrusy expression of the grape that injects a shot of zest and vitality to the palate. The wine immediately awakens your taste buds. Those citrusy notes are followed by melon, honey, yellow rose and some richer orchard fruit tones that give this wine extra thickness on the mid-palate. This is an almost mid-weight expression of Sauvignon Blanc that reaches beautiful levels of intensity and brightness. Fruit is drawn from a site with mostly chalky gravel soil and some weathered porphyry. Production is 28,000.

The Nals Margreid 2018 Alto Adige Pinot Grigio Punggl is a little thicker, richer and more concentrated than your average Grigio from the Italian Dolomites. Indeed, the wine has the amped up texture and some of the riper fruit aromas that remind me of wines made under the flag of the nearby Northern Italian region of Friuli Venezia Giulia. The winemaking process takes it though seven months of stainless steel and culminates with some time in oak barrel. The bouquet is redolent of tangerine skin, melon and minty pear or sweet apple cobbler. There is a petty touch of softness or creaminess on the close. Production is an ample 40,000.
